JOB DESCRIPTION
Executive Director
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. Responsibilities include program development and administration, fundraising, staff and operations management, community relations, and youth programming.
In fundraising: (30% of job duties)
Ensure the organization’s financial sustainability by implementing and coordinating all fundraising efforts, including but not limited to, grant writing, underwriting, telethons, membership drives, benefits, and soliciting donations from major benefactors, and acknowledging support of contributors.
In staff and operations management: (25% of job duties)
Manage all personnel activities, including the recruitment, employment, and release of staff.
Ensure that job descriptions are current, annual performance evaluations held, and sound human resource practices are in place.
Encourage staff and volunteer development and education.
Assure a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff, volunteers, and members.
Recommend personnel policies to the Board of Directors.
Inform the board on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it in a timely manner.
Attend all regular meetings of the WYOU Executive Committee, and Board of Directors, as well as other meetings of the Board, including the Finance, Fundraising, Personnel, Planning, and Policy committee meetings.
Maintain reporting requirements, including the Wisconsin Association of PEG Channels, monthly board reports, quarterly city reports, and programming hours.
In program development and administration: : (25% of job duties)
Assure the organization has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission by providing leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff.
Articulate and promote the station’s mission and needs to a broad audience, including Board and staff, volunteers, public officials, and community leaders.
Build strategic collaborations with community organizations.
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, as well as WYOU’s bylaws and standing rules.
Conduct official correspondence of the organization and execute legal documents with the executive committee of the board.
Increase positive relations with the public and other media outlets.
Develop a strong internet presence for WYOU.
In community relations: (10% of job duties)
Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and goals that encourage continual involvement of the community.
Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
Serve as Executive Editor of all program publications, including the program guide.
In budget and finance: (10% of job duties)
Manage financial accounting and reporting, including bookkeeping, payroll, paying the bills, preparing monthly reconciliations, preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Board and Finance Committee, tracking the annual operating budget and cash flow, and creating systems to track expenditures against project grants and line items.
Develop and maintain sound financial practices.
Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing an annual operating budget.
